A report of child abuse is made every 10 seconds – more than 3 million reports involving over 6 million children each year!
An average of five children die each day as a result of abuse or neglect.
Statistics show that 1 in 10 children will be sexually abused by their 18th birthday in the U.S.
90% of perpetrators are someone the child and family knows and trusts.
Left untreated, victimization can result in an increased risk for mental illness, eating disorders, drug and alcohol dependence, teen pregnancy and criminal involvement.
If you suspect a child has been the victim of abuse, or witnessed a violent crime, contact your local Police Department, Sheriff’s Office, Department of Children & Family Services (DCFS) or, in the event of an emergency, call 911.
