A report of child abuse is made every 10 seconds – more than 3 million reports involving over 6 million children each year!

  • An average of five children die each day as a result of abuse or neglect.

  • Statistics show that 1 in 10 children will be sexually abused by their 18th birthday in the U.S.

  • 90% of perpetrators are someone the child and family knows and trusts.

  • Left untreated, victimization can result in an increased risk for mental illness, eating disorders, drug and alcohol dependence, teen pregnancy and criminal involvement.

If you suspect a child has been the victim of abuse, or witnessed a violent crime, contact your local Police Department, Sheriff’s Office, Department of Children & Family Services (DCFS) or, in the event of an emergency, call 911.
